Assembling and Installing Our New Mantus Anchor

Shawn and Our New Mantus Anchor installed on SV Banjo

Assembly and Installation of Our New Mantus Anchor A week ago, Shannon and I upgraded our anchor chain from 5/16″ G-43 High-Test to 3/8″ G-43 High-Test.  We also upgraded our windlass gypsy to the correct size for the new chain.  The only thing left was the anchor, and our ground tackle would be in great shape. It is finally the weekend and we have been eager all week to get our new Mantus Anchor, created and produced by Mantus Marine, assembled and installed aboard Banjo. We opted to purchase the…

New Anchor Chain, Windlass Upgrade and Mantus Anchor Purchase

Anchor Chain, Windlass Upgrade and Mantus Anchor Purchase In this post, we are going to walk through the steps of performing our anchor chain, windlass upgrade and Mantus Anchor Purchase.  After we purchased Banjo, we saw that a portion of our anchor chain was rusty and needed to be replaced.  We decided, if we were going to replace the existing chain, that we would go ahead and upgrade the chain size at the same time.  Our previous chain consisted of 200-feet of 5/16-inch High-Test G-43.  We made a call to…

Week of 2018Jan15: Cold with Rain & Snow on the way, Sushi and Boat Projects

Week of 2018Jan15 We shared a nice weekend and enjoyed the week of 2018Jan15.  Temperatures started to drop last weekend, but were tolerable.  We had a few days of overcast and rain but today was rather nice.  It was chilly, but not frigid… except maybe this am due to the wind.  But as the weekend progressed, it warmed up nicely.  Standing water in the area is frozen each morning when we take the pups for a walk.  Usually, however, the ice is melted by lunchtime. Anchor Chain Arrives We placed…

Another Issue with the House Water Pump

Shurflo Extreme 5.7 Smart Sensor Pump

Our SHURflo failed.  Pumps dont last forever.  For that matter nothing on a boat does.  So we jumped online to research options and found the replacement part numbers on SHURflo’s Website.  We were looking forward to having proper replacement parts.  Little did we know,…

Dog Days

Dog Days of Summer Some days are more trying than others.  These past few weeks in New Bern have been hot… and humid beyond what either Shannon or I are used to.  These are the dog days of summer.  We have had to make a conscious effort to slow down, to be more patient, and to take breaks.  We have discovered that the middle of the day is probably the worst time for us to attempt to conquer any boat project, unless it involves the water hose. Dog Days of…
