Boat Life

These are the day-in, day-out experiences of boat life cruising on SV Banjo.  Sometimes it is mundane, sometimes it is thrilling.  There are even days that test the patience of the crew.  But every bit of it is real, unscripted, and authentic.

Life Aboard

A large portion of our daily boat life revolves around taking care of our two dogs, performing maintenance, and upgrading the boat.  We love to sail and travel at every possible opportunity, but the reality aboard a cruising sailboat involves fixing things, inventing things and creative problem solving.  However, we always try to take advantage of moments throughout our day to be grateful and to enjoy the day.  You will find that sunsets are some of our favorite things and we video them almost daily.

A Rainy but Happy Monday at the Marina

Happy Rainy Monday It’s a rainy, but happy Monday here at the marina.  The rain has set in again today, but the Banjo crew are troopers! The girls aren’t thrilled about the rain.  Luckily, they don’t have to be out in it too much today. Quick walks to do their business, then back to being lazy boat dogs. 2018 Sudan Shriner Parade in New Bern, NC We discovered that today, 27 Jan 2018, was the 2018 Sudan Shriner Parade in New Bern, NC.  The parade was scheduled for noon on Middle Street in downtown New Bern.  It was a great partly-cloudy day, slightly cool, but not uncomfortable.  Shannon and I walked across the bridge and got to take some great video footage of the entire parade.  It lasted a little over an hour and included all sorts of mini-cars, trucks, characters and vehicles.  Shriners from all over North…

A Whole Chicken & A Pressure Cooker So, I ran across a sale on whole chickens a couple of weeks ago, and thought hmmmm I bet I can cook this in the pressure cooker.  Of course I researched several recipes, and came up with my own version of Pressure Cooker Chicken. Week of 2018Jan15 We shared a nice weekend and enjoyed the week of 2018Jan15.  Temperatures started to drop last weekend, but were tolerable.  We had a few days of overcast and rain but today was rather nice.  It was chilly, but not frigid… except maybe this am due to the wind.  But as the weekend progressed, it warmed up nicely.  Standing water in the area is frozen each morning when we take the pups for a walk.  Usually, however, the ice is melted by lunchtime. I’ve never really pondered that question until now, but what exactly is Butterscotch?  I’ve never made butterscotch, so I couldn’t tell you how to make it.  I mean, does it actually have scotch in it?  I decided to find out the answer to that question.
